Tuesday morning, a natural gas pipeline exploded in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, on Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou. According to OEP officials, one Delfin LNG pipeline worker was injured in the explosion. This 28-mile-long pipeline connects to an offshore rig where natural gas has been cut off, allowing the fire to burn out. Officials stated there are no off-site impacts.
The Cameron Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness reported the location of the explosion to be south of a compressor station at the beach. This triggered a shelter-in-place order, which has since been lifted, for Johnson Bayou High School.
An investigation is being conducted by Louisiana state police to determine the cause of the explosion.
